Welcome to Dodge Rodeo

A quick ride through rodeo history

As the western frontiers were settled, riding and roping competitions emerged in both Canada and the United States dating back to the 1700s. Over time, these informal contests evolved into more organized "rodeo" events. Wagon racing had similar humble beginnings, starting in the 1800s, as large wagons that provided food and supplies to cowboys out herding animals would race back to their base camp at the end of the day.

From those early days, rodeos and chuckwagon racing have grown steadily, becoming major events for many Western Canadian towns and cities. With roots firmly established, there are rodeo locations in Canada that have endured for over 100 years, with many between 50 and 100 years old. In the early 2000s, the oldest indoor rodeo in Canada — located in Stavely, Alberta, population 500 — celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Recognizing the importance of rodeo, Dodge has been a strong supporter of this exciting sport since 1981 through the Dodge Rodeo Program. Today, Dodge is the primary or major contributing sponsor for over 200 CPRA (Canadian Professional Rodeo Association) rodeo and chuckwagon performances. Dodge is also one of only four major sponsors of the Canadian Finals Rodeo held each November in Edmonton.

And of course, we're proud that Dodge Ram is the "Official Truck of Professional Rodeo in Canada." After all, we know a thing or two about powerful rides.
